Editorial Policy

Purpose and scope

This policy describes how Small Trades Magazine creates, reviews and maintains the content on this site. It applies to features, how-to guides, product reviews and any editorial material published under our name.

Editorial principles

  • Neutrality: We present balanced information, explain pros and cons, and avoid promotional language in editorial content.
  • Accuracy: Facts, specifications and performance claims are checked against manufacturer documentation, standards and trusted sources where available.
  • Clarity: We write for a general audience — avoiding unnecessary jargon and explaining technical terms where they appear.
  • Transparency: We disclose commercial relationships and correct errors openly.

Sources and verification

We rely on primary sources (manufacturer documents, product manuals, standards bodies), installer input, and reputable third-party publications. All factual claims that materially affect a recommendation or safety advice are verified by at least one reliable source and linked where possible.

Review process

  • Drafts are prepared by writers or editors with relevant topic research.
  • Technical or safety-critical content is reviewed by subject-experienced contributors or external experts when appropriate.
  • Articles that include measurements, performance claims or cost comparisons include source citations and date of the last verification.

Corrections and updates

If we become aware of an error, we correct the content promptly and include a note in the article indicating what was changed and when. For substantive updates (for example if an installation method is deprecated), we may add an editor’s note and update the article metadata.

Conflicts of interest

We disclose relevant commercial relationships on content where they may influence recommendations (affiliate relationships, sponsored content). If content is sponsored, the sponsorship is made explicit at the top of the article. Editorial control remains with our editors.

Opinion vs fact

Where a piece includes an opinion (for example, a recommended pick in a product comparison), that opinion will be clearly indicated and supported by factual evidence or test data where available.

How to request a correction

If you believe an article contains an error or omission, contact us at reach@smalltrades.com.au with the article link, details of the issue and any supporting documents. We will investigate and respond with corrective action or a reasoned explanation.
